Briarrock Mesa

Briarrock Mesa

Briarrock Mesa is a browser-playable thriller interactive fiction and classic text adventure. You play by typing commands. The facility answers in procedures, signage, and locked doors, and it remembers what you carry, what you learn, and what you can prove.

You were convicted for a murder you did not commit. The sentence is fifty years. The destination is marketed as reform. In a range of mesas in the New Mexico desert, one mesa sits shorter than the others, crowned by a complex that looks too large for the stone beneath it.

Rail lines and service roads feed the site. Intake is bright. Staff are polite. Everything is medical and calm. You are expected to follow directions until you are placed into your assigned room. That is the point.

What it feels like

Sunlit corridors over buried concrete. Friendly voices over hard schedules. Early play is compliance and observation. Later play becomes stealth, improvisation, and evidence you cannot afford to lose.

The bus window rattles in its frame. Desert light glances off glass and wire. > look A short mesa ahead. A facility on top that should not fit. Rail lines that do. > examine reflection Your own face, pale in the glass, staring back like a witness who can’t testify. > listen Engine hum. Chains. A man behind you breathing too fast for a long ride.

About the story

This is a wrongful-conviction escape story built on one hard rule: escape alone is not enough. To get your life back, you must get out with the real killer and a proof bundle that can survive scrutiny.

Player control begins at intake. You are expected to follow directions until you are placed into your assigned room. The first cracks appear in paperwork, in quiet slips, and in what the schedule refuses to say.

Mechanically, it is a classic Infocom-style text adventure, rebuilt for the web. You explore by typing natural commands, combining tools, learning procedures, and using the facility’s own systems against it. Later play adds pressure and risk, but the game is designed to be learnable.
